Brain Plays Key Role in Appetite by Regulating Free Radicals
Researchers at Yale School of Medicine suggest that antioxidants could play a role in weight control.
The study observed the hormone , ghrelin and fee radical levels in mice. High ghrelin levels induces appetite as a result of fat metabolism in the brain’s hypothalamus. This fat- burning produces free radicals, which consequently switches on the satiety-promoting brain cells. This implies that each time a feeling of fullness or satiety is reached during a meal, you have a high level of free radicals that could potentially cause disease!
The study shows that appetite is regulated by free radicals, implying that if you interfere with free radicals, you may affect eating and satiety. Many herbs are rich in compounds that are potent antioxidants.
